Every Tesco in Leicester
First, we need to define what we are calling Leicester and what we aren’t calling Leicester. The most obvious definition is the City of Leicester, but if you look on a map it is quite obvious that what someone might consider to be Leicester is slightly larger. Next you might look up the “Leicester Urban Area” which if we use the city and inner suburbs combined we get an area much more like we would expect. But, I was in Leicester without a car and using public transport, so I went by the boundary of the “Leicester Multi-operator Ticket” which at £6.30 a day for all buses* in the zone is not too pricey. This boundary includes all of Leicester and the Inner Suburbs as well as Groby, Birstall, Syston, Blaby, Whetstone and Countesthorpe.
*excludes Park and Ride buses 103, 203 and 303
In this definition of Leicester there are currently 29 Tesco’s (including all Express’s, Superstore’s and Extra’s). We exclude distribution centres, non store click and collect locations, offices, and any Booker and One Stop (which are both owned by Tesco) locations.
In the upcoming list, if you look carefully at the receipts you may notice that I went to them all on the same day, Saturday October 18th (an entirely reasonable 13 hours and 2 minutes). And remember, a day ticket for any bus in this zone was £6.30 and I took 19 buses (including my 950th bus route - Arriva Midlands route 6 Leicester - Thurmaston) to get between the Tesco’s. This comes in at just 37p per bus, who said buses are expensive? (but really, they are for conventional journeys).
In alphabetical order (based on their official name on tesco.com) they are as follows:
